Two senior Rangpur police officers who were on duty at the time of the killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Saeed have been sent on compulsory retirement. The officers sent on compulsory retirement are Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman and Rangpur Range Deputy Inspector General of Police. Abdul Baten.

The two officials were sent on compulsory retirement in two separate notifications of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday (August 13). According to the order of the President, the Secretary of Police Branch 1 of the Public Security Department of the Ministry. Jahangir Alam signed two proclamations.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner said in the notification to retire, BCS (Police) Cadre member and Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md. Moniruzzaman has been retired from public service in the public interest as per the provisions of Section 45 of the Public Service Act 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018). This order will be implemented immediately.

On the other hand, Rangpur Range DIG Md. Abdul Baten is also said to have been retired from government service in public interest as per the provisions of section 45 of 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018).

Earlier, the police arrested a 16-year-old boy in the Abu Saeed murder case. Later, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amir Hossain and Police Constable Sujan Chandra Roy were suspended (temporarily dismissed) and recalled to police lines due to various pressures.
