Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has seized the bank accounts of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and his family. The accounts of his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan, daughter Shafia Tasneem Khan and son Safi Mudachher Khan have also been frozen. Besides, any business account operated by them should also be frozen. The company has taken this action after receiving information about unusual transactions.
Today the account of Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications Junaid Ahmed Palak and his wife Arifa Jasmine Kanika has also been frozen. On August 12, former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, his wife and chairman of United Commercial Bank Rukhmila Zaman Chowdhury, children or business organizations were ordered to freeze accounts. On the same day, the accounts of Minister of State for Information Mohammad Ali Arafat, his wife Sharmin Mushtari were frozen. On August 11, the organization froze the account of the former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud’s family.
According to the letter, the accounts of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and his family members and the businesses owned by them should also be suspended. As a result of the account freeze, they will no longer be able to withdraw money from these bank accounts. But money can be deposited. This guidance has been given in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Besides, information or documents related to the suspended account such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement should be sent within the next 5 working days.
