ACC to investigate Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to initiate an investigation against former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and his associates. Allegations of acquiring illegal wealth through syndicated corruption and abuse of power have been leveled against him. A special investigation team led by deputy director Jahangir Alam is probing the matter.

ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed this inquiry to media on Thursday afternoon.

Allegations have been received that the ACC has been investigating corruption and the former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal of the outgoing Awami League government used to take sacks of money as bribe ever since he got the charge of the Home Ministry. He used to collect this money from police, drug control department and fire service. For this, Asaduzzaman Khan formed a syndicate under the leadership of the then Additional Secretary Dr. Harun Or Rashid Biswas. Other members of the syndicate were Joint Secretary Dhananjay Kumar Das, Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to the Minister Monir Hossain, Public Relations Officer Sharif Mahmud Apu and Administrative Officer Molla Ibrahim Hossain.

According to ACC sources, Dr. played a key role in collecting or withdrawing bribe money. Haroon or Rashid Biswas. This Kamal-Harun syndicate has stolen thousands of crores of rupees. At one stage Haroon Or Rashid retired but he controlled all the bribery and corruption in this ministry. These money have been sent out of the country to avoid risk.

It is alleged that this gang used to take a minimum of 80 lakhs to 2 crores for the appointment of Superintendent of Police in the district. Without the blessing of this syndicate, no policeman would have been appointed to any district or important post. 1 to 3 crore rupees were taken in case of appointment as District Superintendent of Police.

On June 30, 2022, DIG Mollya Nazrul Islam was appointed as Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP). Mollya Nazrul was posted as commissioner of Gazipur in exchange of five crore taka. A few months ago Mollya Nazrul gave a check of Tk 5 crore to Harun or Rashid Biswas. After being appointed as Commissioner of Gazipur, he gave Tk 2 crore in cash to Harun Or Rashid at Hotel Westin. At that time Mollya Nazrul took back the previous check and gave a check of 3 crore rupees. Later the rest of the money was also paid. These money were delivered in sacks to Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s Farmgate residence.

Minister Jyoti failed to transfer a police officer. Kamal tells him to talk to Harun or Rashid. There was a dispute in the house last June. Enraged, Jyoti vandalized the house.

While giving the NGO’s ‘No Objection Certificate’ or ‘NOC’, each organization had to pay Tk 80 lakh to 1 crore at the court of Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. This reporter has the evidence in this regard.

It is known that in 2018, when a development organization in Uttara area of ​​the capital went to get the NOC, problems started in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Earlier, Special Branch of Police, Deputy Commissioner, NSI submitted a positive report. Still, the file was kept in the ministry for months for unknown reasons. 85 lakhs were paid to the minister before the election in December 2018 under compulsion. The money bag was handed over to one of Kamal’s family members in front of Kamal’s house in Farmgate area.

Whenever there was a circular in Fire Service and Civil Defence, a list was sent from the minister’s office. The former minister used to force the fire service to appoint them accordingly.

On October 2, 2023, 535 people were appointed by the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense. Among them were 436 male firefighters, 15 female firefighters and 84 drivers. At the beginning of the recruitment process, a list of 250 people was sent from the minister’s office to the director general of the directorate of fire service and civil defense. The fire service was forced to appoint according to that list on the orders of the former minister.

According to sources, Kamal-Harun syndicate took Tk 8-12 lakh per person for recruitment.
