No person from the foreign missions is currently stationed inside the cantonment. The Inter-Services Public Relations Department (ISPR) has requested everyone to show patience and cooperative attitude without listening to rumours. This information was informed in a circular signed by ISPR director Lt. Col. Sami-ud-Daula Chowdhury on Saturday (August 17) night.

It is said in the notification, the change in political status as a result of the movement of students across the country led to a major deterioration in the law and order situation. In the emerging situation, repeated requests were made on behalf of foreign missions based in Bangladesh to strengthen security. At that time, in the absence of the police and other law enforcement agencies, they sought this security assistance only from the army. In view of this, a significant number of army personnel were deployed to provide security to diplomatic areas and embassies located in Dhaka. which is currently ongoing.

The circular also said that on the request of the Indian High Commission, only the civilian members were given shelter in other cantonments including the Dhaka cantonment. Besides, some members were staying in their respective consulate buildings and in different hotels, so security was provided in those places. Apart from this, a number of Russian experts working at Rooppur nuclear power plant were also provided security. In this regard, the army has given all the information to the concerned ministry.

At present no person from the foreign missions is stationed inside the cantonment. In this regard, everyone is humbly requested to show patient and cooperative attitude without listening to rumours.
