Old Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, is the oldest and most traditional part. Rich in a wonderful blend of history, culture, and architecture, Old Dhaka is not just a place, it is a feeling, a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation.

Since Dhaka was declared the capital during the Mughal period in 1608, the importance of this city continued to grow. Every brick and stone of old Dhaka is a witness of history. At the heart of the city lies the glory and valor of the original Dhaka. Historical architectural monuments such as Dhakeswari Temple, Hosseini Dalan, Lalbagh Fort, Armenian Church, Ahsan Manzil etc. are reminders of that rich past even today.

People here live their festivals well known. Various religious and social festivals including Eid, Puja, New Year are celebrated here with colorful arrangements. In particular, the ‘Shakrain’ or kite festival is a unique tradition of Old Dhaka, where the sky is filled with colorful streams of kites. Not only that, the food of Old Dhaka is also a big part of its heritage. Biryani, Kebab, Khichuri, various sweet dishes and especially ‘Bakarkhani’ – these dishes are part of the glorious heritage of old Dhaka. People are more attracted to the food here not only because of its taste, but because of its traditional method of preparation.
