1 km area near Shahjalal International Airport declared silent: Syeda Rizwana

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser on environment, forest and climate change of the current interim government, said that the area covering 1 km north and south of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be declared silent. Steps will be taken to prohibit honking of vehicles in that area from October 1. And she added, everyone will be encouraged to use alternative methods to make the airport one time plastic free.

Environment Advisor Syeda Rishwan Hasan said these words in the president’s speech in a virtual meeting last Tuesday.

 

 

Syeda Rizwan Ahsan also said that on September 17, the Civil Aviation Authority will make a final plan for the horn ban campaign in the area adjacent to the airport with the relevant departments. From October 1, the mobile court will be conducted by the Department of Environment, BRTA, Civil Aviation and Traffic Police.

 

Secretary and Additional Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change addressed the meeting. Besides, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority, Director General of Environment Department and Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority were also present. Representatives of the Department of Public Safety, Department of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Tourism participated in the meeting. Representatives of Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Shahjalal International Airport and Armed Police Battalion also presented their views in the meeting.
