A group of Dhaka University students recently protested by burning copies of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, accusing them of publishing provocative reports on minority issues in Chittagong and supporting the July uprising massacre in opinion pieces. They chanted slogans against the newspapers and called for a public boycott.

The students claimed that since their inception, these newspapers have openly supported the ruling Awami League and served the agendas of foreign intelligence interests in the region. They further alleged that the publications frequently promote sensational news influenced by these external entities, advocating fascism and stirring divisive issues.
