The woman named Shamima Akhtar (34) died while undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in the capital on Tuesday around 9 pm.

Dr. Professor of Urology Department. Habibur Rahman Dulal confirmed Shamima’s death.

He said the first recipient of Sarah’s kidney died of a lung infection. Now the second one also left. It is very difficult for us.

Earlier, Hasina Akhtar, who took Sarha’s kindy, died in October last year.Sarah Islam’s organ donation in January last year marked the country’s first transplant of a ‘brain dead’ kidney into another patient’s body, sparking a nationwide debate.

Professor Habibur Rahman said, Shamima was out of our care for the last 6 months. Recently her brother reported that Shamima’s creatinine had gone up, completely dry. He was readmitted to BSMMU 3 weeks ago. Initially the condition improved slightly but the creatinine increased again and he was brought from the ward to the cabin. Even then he was admitted to ICU 4 days ago as his condition did not improve.

When asked about the cause of Shamima’s death, he said that she was diagnosed with C virus and rare pneumonia. Accordingly, we started dialysis. One day was also taken to an outside hospital. But as the condition did not change, he was admitted to the ICU. Shamima died there around 9 pm today.

Hasina Akhtar, who received Sarah’s kidney, died at the Kidney Foundation in October, said kidney foundation president and eminent kidney disease expert Prof. Haroon Or Rashid. He had an infection.

Meanwhile, for the second time, one of the two who underwent a ‘brain dead’ kidney transplant (cadaveric kidney transplant) has died. A person suffering from kidney problems for 7 years was transplanted on January 25 this year. The 44-year-old patient died on February 4. The other patient is still healthy.
