The United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution calling for an end to arms sales to Israel. The resolution, passed on Friday, also calls for bringing Israel to justice for possible war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Pakistan raised the proposal at the UN Human Rights Council on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Among the 47 member countries of the Council, 28 countries including Bangladesh voted in favor of the proposal. 6 countries including the United States and Germany voted against. And 13 countries including India and France abstained from voting.

Israel is conducting a hellish killing spree in Gaza in the name of eliminating Hamas. The valley was reduced to rubble by their continuous air and bombardment. More than 33,000 Palestinians have already lost their lives. In such a situation, the United Nations Human Rights Council held a meeting on Friday. At the time, Israel was being held accountable for possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Along with that, the organization also demanded to stop arms sales to Israel.

UN human rights spokesperson Jeremy Lawrence said violations of international law have been ongoing in Gaza since October 7. Both sides are grossly violating international human rights law. Palestinian civilians have been suffering unprecedentedly for six months in Gaza.

There is no obligation to comply with this decision even if the proposal is passed. Tel Aviv has been accusing the Human Rights Council of bias for a long time.

On the other hand, Israel is receiving foreign arms and ammunition support for its aggression in Gaza. In this situation, the United Nations officials called for an immediate stop to arms exports to Tel Aviv last February. However, several Western countries continue to export weapons to Israel. America is one of them.
