Looking at the farm shed, it looks like the cows are waiting to be sold. They will be picked up in the local bazaar within a day or two. But in reality, these cows of the farm have been sold before the local animal markets of Qorbani have gathered. Buyers bought cows and left them at the farm. A couple of days before Eid, buyers will take their purchased sacrificial cows.

Last Monday afternoon, going to Ariyan Dairy Farm in Mustafapur, suburb of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila, it was seen that cows of different colors and sizes are tied in a row in the cow sheds. It seems that the cows have been prepared for sale. Within a day or two, the local market for cattle will be crowded. They will be picked up in these bazaars. Among them, two or four unknown buyers were also seen, they were talking with the farm owner. A buyer has chosen a cow for sacrifice, its weight is being measured. A calm and quiet atmosphere prevails in Thamar.

According to Aryan Dairy Farm sources, Syed Faisal Ahmed established this farm in his own house in Mustafapur in 2018. In the beginning, about 10 lakh rupees were invested. The farm has four small and big sheds for keeping cows. Cows of his farm are sold more or less during various festivals including Shirni, weddings throughout the year. However, the big event is centered on Eid al-Adha. Desi, Shahiwal, Brahmi cross breeds of cows were started to be bought for the farm immediately after Eid al-Adha last year. Every year, after Eid-ul-Adha, they buy one to one-and-a-half-year-old small cows from local Dighirpar market, Sarkar market and other rural markets. Then they nurtured them themselves. Cows are fed with straw, chaff, husk and grass throughout the year. Six workers work regularly to look after these cows. This year 100 cows have been reared for sacrifice.

His investment in this is about 40 lakhs. Meanwhile, the cow market of Moulvibazar city-suburban Kurbani has not gathered yet. Different markets have just started. But before that most of the cows of Aryan Dairy Farm were sold. 85 cows were sold till last Monday evening.

However, the sold cows remain on the farm. Buyers will come a day or two before Eid and take their cows. The cost of rearing these days is also borne by the buyers. Buyers pay an additional 1000 rupees for each cow. In this, the buyers do not have to face the trouble of keeping cows at home. The method of selling cows is not done by wholesale bargaining like in the bazaar. Buyers choose cows according to their budget and needs. Then pay the money according to the weight. In this case, the price of common country cow has been fixed at Tk 490 and Shahiwal at Tk 510 per kg.

Aryan dairy farm workers. Rumel Mia told Prothom Alo that there are 10 to 15 cows left for sale. And all are sold. Sale started from June 1. A day or two before Eid, buyers will come and take it. Weightage is given according to buyer’s preference. Among the buyers there are buyers from Moulvibazar city, suburbs including Kulaura, Sylhet, Chittagong, Dhaka.

Farm owner Syed Faisal Ahmad told Prothom Alo, “cows are sold from the farm throughout the year. However, more cows are reared ahead of Eid. Our sale of cows is almost finished before the bazaar. We have no problem buying cows here.
