A raid has begun on a four-storey house surrounded by a suspected militant hideout in Barpa area of ​​Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj. At 1.30 pm, the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and SWAT members of the police started the operation. Police said the hideout belonged to the banned militant organization Ansar al-Islam.

ATU Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mohammad Chanwar Hossain is leading the operation. Along with ATU and SWAT, Rupganj Police Station members are present at the spot.

Before the operation, Mohammad Chanoar Hossain told media persons that they believe that one or more militant members may be staying in the house owned by Saudi expatriate Zakir Hossain of Barpa Ariabo area. He said that a woman militant was arrested from Cox’s Bazar on Monday as a result of raids on a two-storey house of a militant hideout in Kailati Union of Netrokona Sadar Upazila on June 8 and 9. Based on the information given by him, the four-storey house was identified in Barpa area of ​​Rupganj. The ATU surrounded the house from 10:30 am on Tuesday. They believe that there may be several militants in the house, including a bomb expert.

 

 

Chanwar Hossain also said that all the members of the house have been safely evacuated before the operation. The house has been disconnected from gas and electricity. It is not yet known in which room the militants are staying in the house. The tenant of the ground floor of the house said. Shahnewaz told Prothom Alo, “The house was suddenly surrounded by the police in the morning. Later I came to know that there are militants in the house.

Shahnewaz said that about three months ago, a man aged 40-42 rented a flat on the third floor of the building. He lived with his wife and two sons in the flat.
