The BNP and Islami Andolan, led by Charmonai Pir, have reached a consensus on a 10-point agenda, including the demand for swift reforms followed by free and fair elections. The agreement was finalized during a meeting between BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Islami Andolan leader Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim at the Islami Andolan office in Paltan, Dhaka. Senior leaders from both parties, including Islami Andolan Secretary General Yunus Ahmad, were present.
Although ideological differences have historically divided Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Andolan, recent meetings between their leaders have sparked speculation about broader alliances among Islamic political groups. This includes BNP leaders, who have criticized these developments, labeling them as collaborations between "anti-liberation forces and fascists."
Despite past criticism, Mirza Fakhrul’s meeting with the Charmonai Pir occurred amidst Islami Andolan’s calls for Islamic coalition-building and public criticism of BNP’s governance failures. Both parties emphasized the urgency of reforms and elections, aligning on a shared vision of opposing authoritarianism and establishing democratic integrity.
The key points of their agreement include:
1. Building a sovereign, democratic welfare state free from imperialist influences.
2. Prosecuting corrupt individuals, criminals, and money launderers.
3. Ensuring voting rights and upholding fundamental human rights through national consensus.
4. Implementing minimal reforms to facilitate credible elections.
5. Addressing inflation, restoring law and order, and protecting marginalized communities.
6. Uniting all anti-Awami League forces for national reconstruction.
7. Avoiding mutual criticism among opposition groups.
8. Preventing any authoritarian regime like the current government from returning to power.
9. Refraining from making statements against Islamic principles.
10. Removing pro-government individuals embedded in administrative positions.
