BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the interim government has yet to provide clear directives regarding the elections. Speaking at the party’s extended meeting at the LD Hall premises of the National Parliament today, he remarked that the people of the country had high hopes following the change on August 5 and the departure of the fascist Hasina. They expected swift restoration of voting rights, allowing them to elect their representatives. However, he expressed disappointment, noting that such clear guidance had not yet been received.
Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the sacrifices BNP had made in its struggle for democracy and the people’s rights. He further highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation, particularly in educational institutions, where the academic environment in universities was being severely affected. He also raised concerns over attempts to erase the names of distinguished scholars, scientists, and literary figures from East Bengal from university records.
Additionally, he warned of efforts to disrupt democracy through conspiracies both domestically and externally. He accused certain groups of misleading the public with false narratives.
The meeting was presided over virtually by BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, while party chairperson Khaleda Zia also joined as the chief guest through a virtual connection.
