Following the July uprising that led to her ouster from power, the National Identity Registration Division under Bangladesh’s Election Commission has locked the National ID (NID) cards of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ten of her family members. Multiple sources confirmed on Monday (April 21) that the action was executed through an official letter.
According to documents, the order was verbally issued by the division’s Director General A.S.M. Humayun Kabir on February 16. It remains unclear whether this move was directly instructed by the Election Commission Secretariat.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the individuals whose NIDs have been locked include Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed, Sheikh Rehana, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, Shahin Siddiq, Bushra Siddiq, and Tarique Ahmed Siddiq.
