BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has questioned who will provide compensation for the party's leaders and activists who were jailed, disappeared, or killed in the past year. Speaking to journalists at the special tribunal in Dhaka on Sunday (April 27), Khosru raised concerns about the victims of political repression, asking, "What will happen to those who started the movement for democracy? What about those who have sacrificed for 16 years? We see no provisions for them."
He criticized the prolonged farce of justice over the last 15-16 years, alleging that over 6 million BNP supporters were harassed with false cases, imprisoned, and subjected to enforced disappearances or killings. He asked, "Who will compensate them?"
Regarding the judiciary, Khosru emphasized that BNP was the first to demand an independent judiciary and that if the party came to power, it would ensure the implementation of an independent judiciary.
In a related development, Amir Khosru, along with four others, was acquitted in a case filed under the Special Powers Act in 2018 during the student protests demanding safer roads. The verdict was announced by Judge Md. Jannatul Ferdous Ibnul Haque at Dhaka Special Tribunal-14. The other acquitted individuals were Barrister Milhanur Rahman Naumi, Md. Rofikul Islam Nayan, BNP leader Habibur Rahman Habib, and Robiul Islam Robi.
