Calling on political parties to show flexibility in drafting a National Charter, Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, expressed hope that the same unity seen during past movements can also be achieved in the charter process. Speaking ahead of the sixth day of the Commission’s second round of dialogue with political parties on Wednesday (June 25) at the Foreign Service Academy, Dr. Riaz emphasized the need for collective effort.
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Riaz himself, saw the participation of 32 political parties. Five key agenda points were set for discussion: the fundamental principles of the state, the electoral system for the upper house in a proposed bicameral parliament, the structure of the National Constitutional Council (NCC), the procedure for electing the President, and the issue of women's representation.
Notably, despite previous discussions, the parties have yet to reach a consensus on these five issues.
