BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasized the need to allow space for dissenting opinions as a means to strengthen the democratic framework of the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a debate competition jointly organized by Dhaka College Debating Society and The Bangladesh Dialogue at the Bangla Academy on Tuesday, July 8, Fakhrul stated that instead of suppressing dissent, efforts must be made to ensure it can be expressed freely. “Even if we don’t agree with someone’s opinion, we must do our utmost to protect their right to express it,” he said.
Expressing optimism about the country’s future, Fakhrul remarked, “I believe better days lie ahead for Bangladesh. One day, we will stand tall with pride.”
He also stressed the importance of reducing the gap between the urban center and rural periphery, noting that without bridging this divide, it will be difficult to achieve national goals. Fakhrul expressed hope that in a future Bangladesh, all forms of inequality will be eliminated.
