Independent candidate Tasnim Jara, who has submitted her nomination papers for the Dhaka-9 constituency, plans to finance her election campaign using nearly Tk 4.7 million collected from the general public.
According to the affidavit she submitted to the Election Commission, Tasnim Jara has identified public donations as a major potential source of her campaign expenses. She stated that the funds were raised through crowdfunding, amounting to Tk 4,693,000.
Tasnim Jara collected this money while she was still a member of the National Citizens Party (NCP), prior to filing her nomination for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. In addition to the public donations, she mentioned Tk 2.3 million from her bank savings and other income sources, along with £3,200, as funds to cover election-related costs.
Previously, Tasnim Jara served as senior joint member secretary of the NCP. She resigned from the party over disagreements related to its electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded groups. After leaving the party, she submitted her nomination as an independent candidate for the Dhaka-9 seat.
In her affidavit, Tasnim Jara listed her professions as a physician, teacher, and entrepreneur. The 31-year-old candidate identified salaried employment as her primary source of income. She reported earning Tk 713,000 annually from her job within Bangladesh. Her domestic income from shares, savings certificates, and bank deposits stands at Tk 264 per year, while overseas income from similar sources amounts to £3,200 annually.
Information published on the Election Commission’s website shows that Tasnim Jara owns movable assets valued at Tk 2,230,190 and does not possess any immovable property. Her movable assets include Tk 1.6 million in cash, foreign currency worth Tk 370,000 (equivalent to £2,270), bank deposits totaling Tk 10,190, and gold and other precious metals valued at Tk 250,000.
In her income tax return for the 2025–26 fiscal year, Tasnim Jara declared an annual income of Tk 713,597 and total assets worth Tk 1,913,509. She paid Tk 34,057 in income tax during the period.
The affidavit also lists her husband, Khaled Saifullah, as a dependent. He is an entrepreneur by profession and does not earn income within Bangladesh. However, he earns £35,000 annually from overseas sources and an additional £4,800 from shares, bonds, savings instruments, and bank deposits.
Khaled Saifullah’s movable assets are valued at Tk 2.5 million, including Tk 1.5 million in cash and foreign currency worth Tk 1 million. Like his wife, he does not own any immovable property.
