NCP Leader Alleges BNP Threatening New Members in Panchagarh

Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in northern Bangladesh, has alleged that BNP leaders and activists in various upazilas of Panchagarh are threatening newly joined NCP members.

“We have clear evidence and can name those involved. Anyone who engages in theft, extortion, or intimidation will be publicly identified. We plan to compile and display a detailed list of wrongdoers — including parents’ names and addresses — across every district, upazila, union, and ward in the country,” Alam said.

He made these remarks on Friday night during a political workshop and coordination meeting held at the Panchagarh Government Auditorium, where he was the chief guest.

Alam also accused a BNP-backed UP chairman in Debiganj upazila of publicly threatening an NCP coordinator, calling it a dangerous precedent for Bangladesh’s stability. “No one will be allowed to become another Sheikh Hasina here,” he added.

He further alleged that in schools and colleges, BNP members — under the guise of ad-hoc committees — are trying to occupy leadership positions and disrupt the environment, similar to tactics reportedly used by the Awami League. Alam also raised concerns about illegal dredging operations extracting sand and stones under the cover of darkness in three upazilas of Panchagarh.

“From collecting extortion in Tetulia upazila to operating in land ports and dredging sites, we have detailed records of BNP leaders’ activities. We will bring this information to the public and media very soon. Bangladesh will no longer allow a few individuals to fill their pockets at the expense of the people. Whatever harms the public will be stopped,” Alam said.

The event’s keynote speaker was NCP Joint Convenor Sarwar Tushar. Leaders and activists from five upazilas of Panchagarh also attended the meeting.
