The Purple Cap is given to the highest wicket-taker in the IPL. Mostafizur Rahman, the tiger pacer of Chennai Super Kings, was crowned the best bowler at the beginning of this season.

However, Mustafiz could not keep the best crown. The Bangladesh pacer has lost the purple cap due to bowling in middle matches and taking fewer wickets than other bowlers. Currently, Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah has this purple cap.

Yesterday, Sunday, after two consecutive defeats, Chennai has made a great comeback. After defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 78 runs at their home ground MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s team climbed to the top three in the points table.

Mostafiz also turned around on the day of the team’s turnaround. In the previous match against Lucknow Super Giant where he spent 51 runs in 3.3 overs, yesterday Mustafiz scored 19 runs in 2.5 overs. He took 2 wickets.

Mostafiz is now the joint highest wicket taker in IPL. Bumrah and Punjab Kings pacer Harshal Patel have the same 14 wickets.

But Mustafiz can’t snatch the cap from Bumrah. The reason is because of the bowling. Mustafiz spent 296 runs in 8 matches. Economy is around 10 (9.75). The Tiger pacer averaged 21.14 runs against every wicket.

On the other hand, Bumrah cost 239 runs in 9 matches. He has cost 17.07 runs per wicket by bowling at an economy of 6.63. In other words, economy and cost per wicket, Bumrah is ahead from both sides. Because of that, the Purple Cap remains with Bumrah.
