The former star also acknowledged that in a cricket-crazy country like India, national sentiment carries enormous weight. In his view, the idea of putting the country first may have compelled the board to take such a tough call.
He said public emotion always matters, adding that millions of people love the game, which is why such situations arise. Ultimately, he noted, the nation comes before everything else, and from that standpoint, taking a difficult decision may not necessarily be wrong.
