Lionel Messi, one of the greatest footballers of all time, has added another prestigious award to his collection. After winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he was recently honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. This recognition comes in acknowledgment of his significant contributions to global children's healthcare and education, through his work with the Messi Foundation and UNICEF. On January 4th, U.S. President Joe Biden presented the medal at a grand ceremony in the White House, where notable figures from politics, human rights, entertainment, science, and sports were in attendance. However, Messi was unable to attend the ceremony due to prior commitments and expressed his gratitude in a letter, stating that he would accept the honor in person at a later time. Messi's impact extends beyond football, especially following his move to Inter Miami in 2023, which revitalized both the club and U.S. domestic football. His arrival also had a positive effect on the American economy, but it is his humanitarian work that was highlighted by the White House. Along with Messi, NBA legend Magic Johnson, a five-time champion, also received the prestigious award.
