Israel on Highest Alert Over Possible U.S. Action as Protests Shake Iran

Israel has moved into a state of heightened preparedness amid concerns that the United States could intervene in Iran, as the country experiences its largest anti-government demonstrations in years. Three Israeli sources familiar with the matter said the developments are being closely monitored at the highest levels.

In recent days, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned Tehran against using force to suppress protesters and has openly raised the possibility of American involvement. Speaking on Saturday, Trump said the United States was “ready to assist,” without providing further details.

Sources who attended Israeli security discussions over the weekend declined to explain what “maximum alert” means in operational terms. However, the cautious stance comes against the backdrop of last June’s 12-day confrontation between Israel and Iran, during which the United States joined Israel in conducting airstrikes on Iranian targets.

According to an Israeli source present during the call, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the possibility of U.S. involvement in Iran during a phone conversation on Saturday. A U.S. official confirmed that the call took place but did not disclose the content of the discussion.

While Israel has not indicated any intention to directly intervene in Iran amid the ongoing unrest, tensions between the two long-time adversaries remain high, particularly over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ballistic missile program.

In an interview published Friday by The Economist, Netanyahu warned that any Iranian attack on Israel would trigger severe consequences. Referring to the internal situation in Iran, he added that developments inside the country should be closely observed.
