The International Crimes Tribunal has postponed the hearing to June 19 regarding a contempt of court allegation against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and one other individual. On Tuesday, June 3, Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tazul Islam informed the tribunal that despite public notices in two newspapers, Sheikh Hasina did not appear before the court.

According to Advocate Islam, under tribunal law, the court is now empowered to take punitive action against the accused if the charges are proven. The punishment may include up to one year of imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 taka.

The contempt charges stem from a recorded phone conversation allegedly involving Sheikh Hasina, where she was accused of saying she had received a "license to kill 227 people" during a discussion with an Awami League leader from Gaibandha.

In a related development, the tribunal has also ordered newspaper notices summoning four individuals, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman Habib, in connection with the murder of six people in Chankharpul on August 5.

The tribunal continues to investigate and pursue multiple cases involving serious allegations tied to past violence and abuse of power.
