The BBC confirmed that so many soldiers were killed in the war that lasted for more than two years. However, the actual number of army casualties could be much higher.

BBC Russia, independent media group Mediazona and volunteers have been counting the deaths since February 2022. Data from open sources including soldiers’ graves in cemeteries, official BBC reports, newspapers and social media have been used to compile these figures.

The BBC has confirmed that the number of Russian soldiers killed in two years has exceeded 50,000. 25 percent more soldiers were killed in the next 12 months than in the first 12 months. In the second year, more than 27 thousand 300 Russian soldiers were killed. In the second year, Russia gained a lot of ground, but at the cost of many lives.

However, the Russian authorities did not say anything about this number.

The BBC also reported that the figure for Russian military casualties does not include the number of militiamen killed in Russian-held Donetsk and Luhansk. Taking them into account, the total number of army deaths will be several times more than 50 thousand.

However, Russia has never acknowledged the number of dead soldiers over 50,000. However, this figure of the BBC is eight times higher than the one that Russia gave in September last year.

Ukraine, meanwhile, has rarely disclosed the number of casualties on the battlefield. In February this year, on the two-year anniversary of the war, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed.

On February 24, 2022, Russian troops began a full-scale military operation in Ukraine under the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Accordingly, in February of this year, two years have passed since the Russia-Ukraine war.
