There is no major controversy about the team. But some questions have arisen. The first question is, why Liton Das as an opener despite not being in good form? Having a right-handed opener along with Soumya Sarkar and Tanjid Tamim is necessary in cricketing logic. Is it only because of that that the out-of-form Liton Das is taken into the team in a big event like the World Cup?

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu explained this while announcing the team on Tuesday. Chief selector said, we know Liton Das is not in form. Still we have confidence in him. Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu said Zaker Ali Anik is the only wicketkeeper in the team. They took Liton keeping in mind the issue of alternative wicketkeeper.

But the discussion about keeping Liton in the team did not stop at this explanation. Today (Wednesday) the same question was put to captain Nazmul Hossain Shanta in the official press conference of Team Bangladesh.

The question was, the decision to keep Liton Das in the team is only the selectors? How much did you know about this as a captain? Was your opinion taken in selecting the opener? If so, what was your position on the Lytton issue?

Captain Shanta replied, ‘Yes, there was a role in the selection of the team. Not only me, but also Head Coach Hathurusingha’s opinion is taken seriously. We all value Lytton’s experience.’

Shanto informed that the team management discussed the Liton issue not only during the team formation, but also in advance. So the words, ‘We discussed long ago. Not from the Zimbabwe series. Discussions were already going on. We have all decided together.

At the press conference, the question arose, what would you do if there was a better alternative to Litton? The captain Shanta’s clear words, they did not want to take the risk of taking someone new in a big event like the World Cup.

Shanto said, “We didn’t want anyone new at the last minute in a world event like T20 World Cup. We hope he (Litton) will do well.”
