China’s two-day exercise around the autonomous region of Taiwan ended on Friday. The exercise included bombers and warships.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense has released the number of Chinese warships and warplanes that participated in the Taiwan Strait yesterday. They claim that 46 warplanes crossed the median line that day.

China’s military channel reported last night that the exercise has ended. According to a comment report of the People’s Liberation Army Daily, the mouthpiece of the Chinese army, the exercise lasted for two days from last Thursday to yesterday, as previously announced.

Reuters tried to contact the Ministry of Defense of China in this regard today. But there was no response by calling.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said today that 46 Chinese military aircraft crossed the middle line of the Taiwan Strait on Friday, the second day of the exercise. It is considered the unofficial dividing line between China and Taiwan. Taiwan says it has detected a total of 62 Chinese warships and 27 Chinese naval vessels.

According to the ministry, the warships that took part in the exercise include Su-30 fighter jets, nuclear-capable H-6 bombers. As exercises are underway in the Taiwan Strait, so are exercises in the Bashi Channel that divides Taiwan from the Philippines.

China claims the autonomous region of Taiwan as its own territory. China began the ‘Joint Sword-2024A’ exercise around Taiwan on Thursday, three days after Lai Ching was sworn in as Taiwan’s president. The country called Lai Ching Te a ‘separatist’.

Beijing said the exercise was a “punishment” for what Lai said in his first speech after being sworn in as Taiwan’s president last Monday. In the speech, Lai said that neither side of the Taiwan Strait is subordinate to anyone. Beijing believes that through this speech, Lai declared China and Taiwan as separate states.

Lai has repeatedly offered to negotiate with China and has been rebuffed. He said that only the people of Taiwan will decide the future of Taiwan. He also rejected Beijing’s claim of sovereignty. The Taiwanese government has condemned the exercise. Said, they will not be afraid of China’s pressure.

China has been conducting military activities around Taiwan regularly for four years. In 2022 and 2023, the country engaged in large-scale war games in the Taiwan Strait.
