Israel has stepped up its attacks on Rafah in the Gaza Strip in defiance of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) order. Israeli tanks reached the center of Rafah for the first time on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses reported this. Apart from this, the Israeli forces have carried out extensive air strikes in the western part of Rafah.
Earlier on Sunday night, Israel carried out massacres in refugee tents in the declared safe zone in Rafah. At least 45 people, including 23 women, children and the elderly, were killed in an airstrike in Tal As-Sultan area. Many of the victims were burned alive. Children's bodies are dismembered.
This incident caused a storm of condemnation around the world. Various countries as well as the United Nations called for an end to the operation in Rafah in accordance with ICZ's order. On the request of Algeria, an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council was also called yesterday.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the attack on people sheltering in tents in Rafah. He said on social media X, "I condemn the Israeli actions in this incident of killing many civilians. These people only took refuge there to escape this deadly conflict. The UN Secretary General also said, "There is no safe place in Gaza. This horror must be stopped.
But the Israeli forces have increased the intensity of the attack in Rafah, ignoring the orders of ICZ and the global condemnation of Sunday's massacre. Witnesses reported that Israeli tanks were seen near Al-Awda Mosque in central Rafah.
Israeli tanks have pushed further into West Rafah. Some tanks are positioned on hilly terrain in the Zurub area of Western Rafah. Israeli forces are fighting there with Palestinian independence organizations including Hamas.
Witnesses said Israeli forces appeared to be using remote-controlled armored vehicles in Rafah. No immediate military presence was observed in or around some of the armored vehicles. However, a spokesman for the Israeli military did not comment on this.
Residents said earlier that there were airstrikes and shelling from tanks throughout Rafah throughout the night. Israeli forces have also carried out airstrikes in the western part of Rafah. Three Palestinians were killed. Apart from this, there were reports of attacks on people sheltering in tents yesterday. At least seven people were killed.
