Iran’s newly elected president Massoud Pezeshkian has praised Yemen’s Houthi rebels. He thanked the armed groups for their support to the Philistines. Pezeshkian praised this in a phone conversation with the chairman of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat. He also referred to the Houthis’ move in the Red Sea as a “bold” decision. Iran Wire news.

Since the start of the Gaza conflict, the Houthis have launched attacks on Western ships sailing in the Red Sea. They claim that only ships belonging to Israel are their targets. Due to this attack, the ships and trade of other countries moving in the Red Sea are suffering greatly. At least 70 ships were hit by Houthi attacks. So far four crewmen have been killed and two ships have completely sunk. Moreover, a commercial ship is in the hands of the Houthis.

Commercial ships plying through the Red Sea are not spared by Houthi attacks. World trade is severely affected by this. A trillion dollars worth of trade goes through this route annually. The Houthi attack has reduced the volume of this trade. The international community has expressed deep concern over the attack and its impact on global trade.

Pezeshkian’s support for the Houthis is reportedly consistent with recent contacts with other Iran-backed groups in the region. Last week, he wrote a letter to the political office of the Palestinian independence organization Hamas. In it, he promised full cooperation and support to Hamas in the war.

Pezeshkian earlier assured the secretary general of Lebanon-based armed group Hezbollah of continued support. This reflects the continuation of Iran’s regional policy under the new administration. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said a presidential change in Iran would not change Tehran’s support for Hezbollah and other Iran-backed groups in the region.
