35 people lost their lives in Afghanistan due to heavy rains

At least 35 people have been killed in eastern Afghanistan after heavy rains collapsed trees, walls and roofs. 230 people were injured in this incident. The injured have been admitted to Nangarhar Regional Hospital and Fatima-Tul-Zahra Hospital for treatment. News from AFP.

 

Quraishi Badloon, head of the information and culture department told AFP news agency that 35 people were killed in the storm in several districts of Jalalabad and Nangarhar on Monday evening. 230 people were injured.

He said that due to heavy rains, trees, walls and roofs of people’s houses collapsed and the casualties occurred. The number of casualties may rise.

Badlun said the injured have been sent to Nangarhar Regional Hospital and Fatima-Tul-Zahra Hospital for treatment.

A photo posted by the Department of Information and Culture shows health workers in white and blue uniforms tending to the injured.

Pictures posted on social media show collapsed buildings and uprooted electricity poles.

Nangarhar authorities said 400 houses were damaged. At that time, the power service was off in the provincial capital of Jalalabad. Many citizens donated blood to the hospital to support recovery efforts.

A spokesman for the Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid, said, “We express our grief and condolences to the families of the victims.”

Mujahid X said in a post that related institutions of the Islamic Emirate have been ordered to go to the affected areas as soon as possible.

They will provide shelter, food and medicine to displaced families.

The tragedy comes after flash floods in Afghanistan in May killed hundreds of people and inundated the country’s farmland. Where 80 percent of the population depends on agriculture for survival.
