Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will lead the funeral of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political wing of Hamas. The funeral will be held on Thursday in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Iran’s state-owned Press TV reported this information.

Iran’s state television broadcast the news of Haniya’s death on Wednesday morning.

Hamas said in a statement that Haniya had gone to Iran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new president, Massoud Pezeshkian. This event was held in Tehran last Tuesday. Haniya was killed the next day at his residence in Tehran.

Hamas claims that Haniya was killed in a Zionist attack.

Hamas has announced that it will respond to Haniya’s murder. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Khanani said Haniya’s blood will never be in vain.
