The post of Hamas chief has been vacant since Haniya's death. Until now, the names of various people were heard for this position, but finally Yahya Sinwar was chosen by the resistance fighters. In a brief statement, Hamas said the Islamic Resistance Movement has announced the election of Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar as head of the movement's political bureau. He succeeded the martyred Commander Ismail Haniyeh.
Yahya Sinwar is 61 years old. Israel sees him as the main planner behind the unprecedented attack by Hamas fighters who entered Israeli territory on October 7. In this attack, 1200 Israelis were killed and more than 200 Israelis were captured by Hamas and brought to Gaza.
