Moscow has denied claims by a US media outlet that Russia and Ukraine are negotiating through a third party to stop attacks on some of the country's infrastructure. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova spoke about this on Sunday. Last Saturday, a report by the American media The Washington Post claimed that Russia and Ukraine were planning to make an agreement to stop attacks on their energy and power infrastructure. For this, both countries were supposed to send delegations to Qatar this month. The same report also said the deal could have led to a partial ceasefire between the two countries. But it (the plan to hold talks in Qatar) has come to a standstill due to Ukraine's recent attack on Russian territory (Kursk region).
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said about this report, "No one has leaked anything." Because there was nothing to leak. There are no direct or indirect discussions with Russia and the Kiev government (Zelensky administration) to ensure the security of civilian critical infrastructure. Ukraine declined to immediately comment on the talks in Qatar. But the Washington Post report claims that the Ukrainian president's office announced the postponement of the Doha (Qatar) summit due to the situation in the Middle East. It will now be held via video conference on August 22. In the ongoing war, both Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of attacking civilian infrastructure. However, both denied it.
Maria Zakharova cited a recent comment by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the New York Post's claim about Moscow-Kiev talks in Qatar. On August 12, reporters asked Putin what kind of talks could be held with Kiev after Ukraine's ground operations on Russian territory. Putin then responded by referring to the attack on Russian civilian infrastructure (in the Kursk region). Putin then said, 'There is no need to negotiate with people who can do these things.' Russia. After that they occupied about 18 percent of the territory of Ukraine. In this situation, on August 6, Ukraine started a ground operation in the Kursk region bordering Russia. This is the first military operation outside Russian territory since World War II.
