According to a post on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government on Friday morning, discussions are progressing to ensure his release.
The post mentioned that Turkish authorities are hopeful that Shahidul Alam may be flown to Ankara on a special aircraft as early as today, though they have not yet provided full confirmation. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Turkey, Amanul Haque, shared this information on Thursday night.
Shahidul Alam, the Managing Director of Drik, joined the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s mission to Gaza — an international initiative aimed at breaking the Israeli naval blockade and protesting the ongoing violence in Palestine.
The flotilla consisted of nine vessels, including eight from the “Thousand Madeleines to Gaza” campaign, carrying politicians, journalists, doctors, and human rights activists from various countries. On Wednesday, Israeli forces attacked the convoy and detained all activists and crew members, including Shahidul Alam.
