Fire Destroys Documents at Grameen Bank Branch in Brahmanbaria; Arson Suspected
A blaze broke out early Wednesday at a Grameen Bank branch in the Chandura area of Bijoynagar upazila, Brahmanbaria, damaging furniture and official documents, according to bank authorities.
Branch manager Md. Kalim Uddin said the fire started around 2:00am when unknown individuals allegedly poured petrol from outside and ignited the building. “The night guard saw the fire and raised the alarm. Locals helped bring it under control before firefighters arrived,” he said, adding that the vault containing cash was unharmed.
Fire service official Wasi Azad confirmed that their team reached the spot soon after receiving the alert and fully extinguished the fire. “Some documents and furniture were burned, but the money remained intact,” he said.
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam, who visited the site, reported that wooden shelves holding loan files and registers were burned. A general diary has been filed in connection with the incident, and police are investigating the suspected arson.
