A crude explosive device went off in front of the Waqf Building on New Eskaton Road in Dhaka, leaving a pedestrian injured.
The blast occurred around 8:40 a.m. on Sunday. The injured man, Abdul Basir, 50, works at a private company. He was walking to his office in Banglamotor when the device detonated.
Basir suffered injuries to his leg and arm. Speaking to reporters, he said he was on his usual morning walk to work when the explosion suddenly occurred as he passed the Waqf Building. He suspects the device may have been thrown from the flyover above the road.
In recent days, several similar incidents—crude explosions and arson attacks on buses—have been reported across Dhaka. These events come ahead of the verdict scheduled by International Crimes Tribunal-1 for a case related to alleged crimes against humanity during the July uprising involving former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The ruling is due on Monday, 17 November.
With political tension rising, the Awami League has announced online programs, while sporadic explosions and arson attacks continue to be reported in different parts of the city.
