Independent Candidate Osman Hadi Shot in Bijoynagar, Now on Life Support
Sharif Osman Hadi, a potential independent contender for Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of the Inqilab Moncho, has been placed on life support after being shot in the capital’s Bijoynagar area. The information was confirmed by the office of the director at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, when the hospital director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman was contacted for details, his office reported that Hadi’s condition was critical. They stated that he had been placed on life support and that the bullet remained lodged inside his head.
The shooting occurred earlier in the afternoon in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar. Hadi, severely injured, was rushed to DMCH for emergency treatment.
According to Mohammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Wing, two attackers arrived on a motorcycle around 2:25 p.m. and opened fire targeting Hadi.
Md Rafi, who was riding in a rickshaw behind Hadi at the time, described the attack. “We had just finished Friday prayers and were heading toward the High Court. As we reached Bijoynagar, two men on a motorcycle came up and suddenly fired at Hadi bhai before fleeing,” he said.
The incident has drawn serious concern from Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government. He has directed law-enforcement agencies to launch a swift and thorough investigation and to identify and apprehend everyone involved in the attack.
