Woman Arrested for Allegedly Injecting HIV into Former Lover’s Wife in Andhra Pradesh

In Andhra Pradesh, India, police have arrested a woman accused of deliberately infecting her former boyfriend’s wife with HIV through an injection. The sensational case has resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including the main accused. Both the victim and her husband are medical professionals.

The arrested include B. Baya Basundhara (34) from Kurnool and Kange Jyoti (40), a staff member at a private hospital in Adoni, along with two other accomplices. Basundhara has two children in their twenties. All four were taken into custody on January 24.

According to police sources cited by PTI, Basundhara and her accomplices staged a fake road accident. During this incident, Basundhara allegedly took advantage of the situation to inject the HIV virus into the female victim. The victim’s husband is reported to be Basundhara’s former boyfriend.

Police said the accused had previously collected HIV-infected blood samples from patients seeking treatment at a local government hospital. These samples were originally preserved for research purposes. The blood was stored in a refrigerator before being used in the alleged attack. During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted to forcibly injecting the virus into the victim during the staged accident.

Authorities stated that Basundhara could not accept her former lover’s marriage to another woman and allegedly hatched the plan to infect his wife with HIV to disrupt their new life.

The victim is an assistant professor at a private medical college in Kurnool; her name has not been disclosed.

The incident reportedly occurred on January 9 around 2:30 p.m. Police said the victim was returning home from work on a scooter to have lunch when the attack took place. At Vinayak Ghat on K.C. Canal, two people on a motorcycle intentionally collided with her scooter, causing her to fall and sustain injuries. When they approached under the pretense of offering help and attempted to put her in an auto-rickshaw, Basundhara allegedly administered the injection. The suspects fled immediately after the victim cried out for help, police said.

Following the incident, the victim’s husband filed a complaint at Kurnool Three Town Police Station on January 10, leading to the arrest of Basundhara and the three others.
