Seventh-Grader Killed in Narsingdi Over Factional Clash

A 14-year-old boy was shot dead in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila amid ongoing power struggles and factional disputes. The incident took place Wednesday morning in Saydabad area of Shreenagar Union.

The deceased, Md. Mustakim Mia (14), was a student in the seventh grade and the son of Md. Masud Rana, a resident of Saydabad whose family has ties abroad in Saudi Arabia.

Local sources said that two rival groups led by Hanif Master and Ershad Mia have long been involved in violent clashes over control in the Saydabad char area. Previous incidents between the groups have already left eight people dead, including women, and hundreds injured. Property damage, arson, and looting have also occurred during these conflicts.

According to police and local residents, tensions between the two groups had been rising for several days. Around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, followers of Ershad attacked the homes of Hanif’s supporters with firearms and homemade weapons. Hanif’s faction resisted, leading to a violent exchange. During the confrontation, Mustakim was shot by members of Ershad’s group and collapsed on the spot, dying immediately.

At least ten people from both sides were injured in the clash, three of whom have been identified: Rafikul Islam (37), Sohan Mia (26), and Rozina Begum (35). They are receiving treatment at various hospitals. Police, army, and Border Guard personnel quickly arrived at the scene to restore order, and the area is currently under tense control.

Dr. Bimal Chandra Dhar of Raipura Upazila Health Complex said, “Mustakim was brought to our hospital dead. He had a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest, which passed through his body. His body has been sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

Mustakim’s mother, Shahana Begum, told reporters, “My son was standing in the yard when the fighting started. Masum from Ershad’s group shot him. We demand justice for my son.”

Officer-in-Charge Md. Mujibur Rahman of Raipura Police Station said additional police have been deployed to maintain security. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
