The seven-day consecutive government holiday for the holy Eid-ul-Fitr began today, Tuesday. Despite the holiday, long queues of vehicles were দেখা গেছে at fuel stations across the capital.

On the ground around 10:00 AM, at Sonar Bangla Service Station near Asad Gate, a line of vehicles stretching over a kilometer was seen waiting for fuel. The queue included motorcycles, private cars, minibuses, and pickup trucks, although the number of motorcycles was comparatively lower than on other days.

A driver named Md. Jasim, who was waiting with his private car, said that on normal days the অপেক্ষা even longer, but today it seemed slightly shorter.

As of 10:30 AM, the station was still supplying fuel according to demand. However, at Talukdar Filling Station in the same area, fuel distribution was halted shortly before 10:00 AM after supplies ran out. At that time, a long line of vehicles was already waiting, which later grew to over a hundred.

The station’s cashier, Md. Azam, said fuel stocks had been exhausted and supply would resume once new stock arrived, likely around 2:00 PM.

Shihab Ahmed, another private car driver waiting in line, said fuel sales suddenly stopped around 10:00 AM, leaving many uncertain about how long they would have to wait, even on a holiday.

Similar scenes were observed at Trust Filling Station in the Bijoy Sarani area, where long queues of vehicles extended toward Jahangir Gate, and motorcycles lined up toward the Prime Minister’s Office.

Ride-sharing driver Russell Ahmed said he had already waited about 50 minutes and was nearing the station. He plans to travel to his hometown in Pabna by motorcycle during the Eid holiday, which is why he is determined to fill his tank despite the delay.

He added that fuel shortages are reportedly worse in rural areas, and with the Eid holiday approaching, he preferred to wait now rather than risk not finding fuel later.
