The voter list update program is set to begin tomorrow, Monday, and will run until February 3. According to the Election Commission (EC), biometric registration at designated centers will commence on February 5 and continue until April 11. Information will be collected for individuals born on or before January 1, 2008. This nationwide initiative will involve election officers, supervisors, and field staff.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is assisting the EC with laptops, scanners, bags, and other necessary equipment. These materials will be handed over to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin today at 9 AM. According to the Electoral Training Institute, 66,000 personnel have been trained to participate in the voter list update.

From February 12 to April 16, applications for changes in voter registration areas, removal of deceased voters, and data entry or uploads for new voters will be processed using specialized software at the offices of upazila or thana election officers.

Senior Assistant Secretary Nasir Uddin Chowdhury stated that those previously excluded from voter lists will be added, and deceased voters will be removed. The updated voter list, including new registrants, will be published on January 2, 2026, with the final list released on March 2, 2026, after resolving claims and objections.

As per the latest figures, the country has 121,850,160 registered voters, including 62,144,587 men, 59,704,641 women, and 932 third-gender individuals. The EC emphasizes creating an accurate voter list to ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. Special attention is being given to ensure no eligible voters, particularly women and young people, are excluded. Attempting to register in multiple locations or conceal information is considered a crime. The EC believes such actions are nearly impossible in this digital age.
