Amazon workers across the globe are staging strikes and protests during Black Friday under a movement called “Make Amazon Pay,” led by labor rights group UNI Global Union. This initiative, aimed at pressuring Amazon to address worker grievances, environmental concerns, and democratic threats, is set to continue until December 2.

According to a Reuters report, demonstrations against Amazon are being held in over 20 countries alongside the strikes. Protesters are demanding higher wages, improved working conditions, and the freedom to form trade unions. Accusations against Amazon include worker mistreatment, environmental harm, and undermining democratic values.

In response, Amazon dismissed the protests as “misinformation campaigns,” claiming it offers a modern and safe work environment. The company highlighted its role in creating over 1.5 million jobs globally. However, reports indicate that 50% of serious warehouse accidents in the U.S. in 2022 occurred at Amazon facilities.

The “Make Amazon Pay” movement began in 2020, aiming to hold the company accountable for its treatment of employees, environmental responsibilities, and societal impact. This year’s protests have seen participation from over 30 trade unions, environmental groups, and civil society organizations.
