Arrest warrant issued against Pori Moni

A Dhaka court has ordered the commencement of a trial against actress Pori Moni in a murder attempt case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmood, issuing an arrest warrant against her after rejecting a time extension plea. Pori Moni’s lawyer, Nilanjana Rifaat Suravi, confirmed the development on Sunday, January 26.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a report on April 18, 2023, accusing Pori Moni and another individual, Junaid, of assault and issuing death threats. The court took cognizance of the report and summoned both defendants.
Nasir Uddin had filed a complaint in July 2022, alleging that Pori Moni and her associates, habitual alcohol consumers, often entered prominent clubs to drink without paying. He claimed Pori Moni leveraged her connections with law enforcement to intimidate others with false cases. According to the complaint, on June 9, 2021, after midnight, Pori Moni and her associates entered a boat club in Savar, consumed alcohol, and behaved aggressively. The complaint alleged that she attempted to seduce Nasir Uddin, demanded a free bottle of Blue Label alcohol, and, upon refusal, hurled a glass and her phone at him, injuring his head and chest.
The businessman further alleged that Pori Moni and her associates assaulted and threatened to kill him, vandalized the club, and subsequently filed a false case accusing him of attempted rape and murder to suppress the incident.
