United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres participated in a roundtable discussion with members of the National Consensus Commission and political leaders.

The meeting took place on Saturday at 1 PM at a hotel in Shahbagh, Dhaka.

Representing the BNP were its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed. When asked whether the UN Secretary-General had commented on reforms, Mirza Fakhrul stated that Guterres did not discuss the matter, as it is an internal issue.

Mirza Fakhrul further explained that the Secretary-General was briefed on the reform commissions that had been formed. Legal advisor Asif Nazrul provided this briefing. The BNP reiterated its stance, emphasizing the necessity of reforms, particularly those related to elections. Fakhrul stated that the BNP had been the first to call for reforms and stressed the urgency of implementing election-related reforms before holding elections. Additional reforms could then be carried out through an elected parliament, as reform is a continuous process.

Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Secretary General Mia Ghulam Parwar. Also in attendance were NCP convener Nahid Islam, Amar Bangladesh Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, and Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, among others.
