Blockade of roads and waterways is going on in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila today morning-evening (6 am to 6 pm). The Machlong Election Management Committee is observing the blockade to protest the threat of election agents in Sajek’s Bagahat and to demand a fair and peaceful election. The United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) has given full support to it.

The blockaders have been staying on the Baghaihat-Sajek road since 6 am burning tires. Meanwhile, more than three hundred tourists are stranded at Sajek tourist center.

Baghaichhari Upazila Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Awal said that no untoward incident has been reported so far.

It should be noted that Baghaichhari Upazila Parishad elections are going to be held tomorrow on Sunday. Chairman candidate Sudarshan Chakma supported by JSS of Pahar regional party MN Larma Group and Olive Chakma supported by JSS and UPDF of Santu Larma Group are contesting. 6 candidates are contesting for the post of male and female vice chairman.

The Upazila Parishad elections were supposed to be held on May 29. The Election Commission postponed the election due to inclement weather.
