Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a 23-year-old student of Prime Asia University in Banani, Dhaka. Banani Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md. Russel Saroar confirmed the arrests on Monday morning, April 21. The detainees—Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal (19), Alvi Hossain Junayed (19), and Al Amin Sani (19)—were apprehended late Sunday night in an operation around Mohakhali Wireless Gate and nearby areas. CCTV footage placed them at the scene, and investigators found they had contacted one of the main accused by phone and text, helping draw him to the spot. Zahidul’s brother, Humayun Kabir, has filed a case against eight students, including three from the university’s Law and English departments—Mahathi, Meherab, and Abuzar Giffari. The incident stemmed from a clash between students of the English and Textile Engineering departments last Saturday around 4 PM, during which Zahidul was fatally stabbed. Sources say Zahidul had gone to a nearby alley for snacks when a group accused others of harassing female students, leading to a confrontation. Though the university tried to settle the matter, Mahathi, Meherab, and Abuzar allegedly brought outsiders from Hazaribagh and launched a violent attack on Zahidul using sharp weapons.
