Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the BNP, has emphasized the urgent need to restore democracy and voting rights in Bangladesh at any cost. Speaking virtually on Thursday evening at a workshop covering Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, and Panchagarh districts, he stated that the aspirations of the general public are often at odds with those of powerful groups. He underscored the importance of national consensus to move the country forward.

Highlighting that democratic rights are the foundation of progress, he asserted that without the right to vote, everything else is hindered. “To win votes, one must connect with the people. There is no alternative to standing with the people—whatever the cost,” he said.

Tarique pointed out that unlike others, the BNP presented its 31-point reform plan in defiance of authoritarian pressures. “Others are now proposing reforms too—but let the public judge the difference. We will fulfill our commitment. Reform is not a one-time declaration; it’s a continuous process,” he added.

He also mentioned that BNP is actively engaging with the public and not just presenting plans. “We’re not stopping at the 31 points—we’re taking them to every doorstep through our leaders and activists.”

Claiming that 70% of the country’s major development was carried out under BNP leadership, he noted that most public concerns raised during the workshops involved education, healthcare, employment, women’s empowerment, and the environment. “People believe BNP is capable of delivering real progress. It’s a trust built through years of struggle,” he concluded.
