After spending four months in London for advanced medical treatment and family time, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has returned to Bangladesh. She arrived on Tuesday (May 6) at 10:40 AM aboard a Qatar Royal Air Ambulance that landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Accompanying her are two daughters-in-law, members of her medical board, and senior BNP leaders including UK BNP President MA Malek and General Secretary Kaiser M Ahmed.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with other senior party leaders, received her at the airport. Since early morning, crowds of BNP activists gathered outside the airport to welcome her back. Supporters expressed relief at her improved health and hope that she will once again lead the party and contribute to the restoration of democracy in the country.
Earlier, on Monday afternoon (May 5, London time), her son Tarique Rahman drove her to Heathrow Airport. The farewell was filled with emotion, especially for her elder son and his wife, Zubaida Rahman, as they saw her off. Thousands of BNP activists and expatriate Bangladeshis gathered at the airport to bid her farewell with slogans and heartfelt wishes. Khaleda Zia smiled and waved in return, thanking them warmly, and asked them to take care of Tarique Rahman in her absence.
