Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, a UK Member of Parliament and niece of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, did not respond to a summons issued by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh. According to ACC sources, she was summoned on Wednesday, May 14, in connection with a bribery case involving allegations of receiving a flat from Eastern Housing Limited. Neither Tulip nor any of her representatives appeared at the ACC office.
The ACC reportedly sent the summons notice to her addresses in Dhanmondi and Gulshan-2, seeking her statement as part of the investigation. Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, an assistant director of the ACC, is leading the inquiry into the case.
Previously, on May 8, the ACC also summoned Sheikh Hasina herself to appear for questioning regarding allegations of large-scale misappropriation of funds in airport development projects. The commission has indicated it may seek assistance from international bodies to bring Tulip Siddiq under investigation.
