Sunday Marks Final Day to Submit New Party Registration

The deadline for submitting applications for new political party registration ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh will end tomorrow, Sunday. According to the Election Commission (EC), more than 70 applications had been submitted as of Thursday, June 19. Several new parties, including the National Citizen Party (NCP), are expected to submit their applications on the final day.
When asked whether the deadline might be extended, Additional Secretary of the EC, KM Ali Newaz, indicated that it is unlikely. The EC initially invited applications on March 10, setting the first deadline for April 20, by which time 65 new parties had applied. Later, considering the requests from parties like the NCP and 46 others who missed the initial deadline, the EC extended the submission period until June 22.
Among the parties that have submitted applications are Jonotar Kotha Bole, Bangladesh Reformist Party, Bangladesh Peace Party, Save the Country Save the People Movement, National Landless Party, Bangladesh Unemployed Society, Bangladesh Popular Party, Jonotar Kotha Bole, Conservative Party (BCP), Bangladesh Expatriate Welfare Party, Bangladesh Justice Party (BAJAPA), Bangladesh Mukti Oikya Dal, and Bangladesh Manpower Party.
Other applicants include Bangladesh Citizen Movement Party, Bangladesh General Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD-Shahjahan Siraj), Bangladesh National League, Krishak Sramik Party (KSP), Bhashani Manpower Party, Bangladesh Faraizi Movement, Bangladesh Jonogon Party (BAJD), Forward Party, Swadhin Jonota Party, Amjonotar Dal, and several others including Ahingsho Gonandolon.
